William Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew
Directed by Ggreg Snyder

Sexism, family values, paternal piety and good clean fun are the order of the day in Taming of the Shrew, William Shakespeare's timeless classic of love, life and wooing. The production will be presented by the Rustix Theatre Co. at the Next Stage Theatre, 1523 N. La Brea Ave., Hollywood, CA.

The director, Ggreg Snyder, has seen more than a few twists on Shakespeare, and has been guilty of a few of his own (he directed a version of Merchant of Venice set in the 1980's in February 2000, long before That 80's Show.) However, he has grown tired of seeing Kate as a biker chick, Kate as a punk rocker, Kate as a hippie, etc., and has decided to be "unconceptual" in this piece. The clothing is not modern, it is not Elizabethian, it just "is." In the Seinfeld sense, the concept is about "nothing," and it is up to the improv-comedy based troup of 10 actors to tell the story.

Starring as Petruchio is G. Anthony Joseph, who is seen in the recurring character of Dr. Singh in PBS American Family. The Trinidad-born performer has also produced and starred in many films on the Caribbean indie circuit. He teaches at the West Indian Academy of Martial Arts and is also fight choreographer for the production. Katharina is being played by veteran Shakespearean actress Marisa Murray, a recent arrival to LA who has performed with the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, DC. Also in the cast are Jenna Harju, Robert Wu, Aaron Michael Lodge, Clare Jacoby, Nathan Andrew Cambridge, and Charles C. Nickerson. Director Ggreg Snyder is a member of the Knightsbridge Theatre Co. (he directed the 2001 edition of A Christmas Carol for KTC and is currently appearing in A Month in the Country) and has been published in National Lampoon.
